During the February half-term we kick-started this years Museums in Motion partnership project with a three day workshop at the Museum. BEEE Creative CIC welcomed 9 creative young people from local schools, and with the artistic direction of makeAMPLIFY, explored the question 'what is inside your mobile phone?' By investigating objects from our collection and school rooms that were used to fulfill the job of apps and functions of a mobile today, the heritage of search engines, email and on-line photo sharing was revealed.
The participants used movement and dance to create a video installation that demonstrated this heritage, and which also reflected the environment as a place of learning by contrasting their positive and negative attitudes toward school. The filming and music was also lead by the young people them selves, culminating in a film installation which is on display at the museum until 15th April. The film can also be seen via this link.
Museums in Motion is a partnership project with six Hertfordshire Museums made possible with funding raised by The National Lottery and awarded to the project by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
