Pupils will find out what life was like in 1880, focusing on the different experiences of the 'labouring poor', the professional class, and the landed by asking questions and discussing ideas related to evidence from the time in the form of objects, documents and environments.
Taking a guided tour of our period headmaster's house, pupils will find out how people in 1880 spent their time at home, how they ate, kept warm and clean, all without the modern materials and technology that make our lives easier today. We consider children's role in the family and the different expectations placed upon girls and boys. Through photographs, documents and handling objects pupils will compare and contrast the lives of three groups of people involved with the school and draw their own conclusions about Victorian society and ways of life.
PLEASE NOTE: The majority of this session takes place in the Headmaster’s house, which is not accessible for wheelchair users.
